Kenya, June 11, 2026 - Police in Marsabit County have arrested three people and recovered 13 pieces of elephant tusk in what they said coordinated operations against wildlife criminals.
Police said suspects, Wario Ali Halo, Umuro Afani Duba, and Alkano Elema Galgalo were caught off guard after breaching their hideouts at a residential house in Majengo area.
Acting on a tip-off, the officers went on a search of the premises and led officers to a suspicious green sack on the floor.
“Inside the sack were 13 pieces of freshly poached elephant tusks, representing the senseless slaughter of Kenya's heritage,” police said in a statement.

The three suspects, alongside the recovered contraband, the detective said were swiftly escorted to the Marsabit Police Station.
They are currently being processed ahead of their date with the court. Meanwhile, the tusks have been securely detained as exhibits.
This operation they noted underscores the National Police Service's commitment, in collaboration with other government agencies and stakeholders, in the fight against wildlife trafficking and the protection of endangered species.
