Kenya, August 17, 2026 - The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) and the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) have stepped up collaboration on electoral preparedness and access to information ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Registrar of Political Parties J.C. Lorionokou and CAJ Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Naisiae Paloshe Tobiko led officials from the two institutions in discussions on Monday on ways to strengthen coordination and ensure citizens receive timely and relevant information on electoral processes.
The meeting brought together members of the CAJ Technical Advisory Committee on Elections and ORPP’s Election Preparedness team.
The officials discussed enhancing public awareness, improving institutional coordination and strengthening mechanisms for citizens and other stakeholders to access information during the electoral period.
Mr Lorionokou reaffirmed ORPP’s commitment to complying with the Access to Information Act, 2016, saying the office would continue to strengthen the capacity of its staff to handle and facilitate requests for information.
“The ORPP will continue to implement the necessary measures required under the Access to Information Act, 2016. I appreciate the continued engagements with CAJ, both at the headquarters and regional offices, and call for sustained collaboration and capacity-building programmes to strengthen the handling of information within the office,” said Mr Lorionokou.
Ms Tobiko said the partnership was important in ensuring citizens obtain the information they need to participate effectively in the electoral process.
“This partnership must allow citizens to access information needed during the electoral period,” she said.
The two institutions also explored ways of engaging political parties on their obligations under the Access to Information Act and supporting them to establish effective mechanisms for receiving and responding to requests for information.
The engagement was coordinated by the ORPP Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Department as part of efforts to strengthen preparedness for the 2027 elections.
