Kenya, 26 December 2025 - Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda has urged Nyanza residents and his supporters to back President William Ruto’s bid for a second term, praising the Head of State as a leader who listens to the people and responds to their needs.
Speaking at his Awasi village home, where he met thousands of supporters, Prof Ojienda highlighted tangible developments under the Ruto administration as proof of a people-centred leadership approach.
“The people of Kenya deserve leaders who respond to their needs, not empty promises,” Prof Ojienda said.
“President Ruto has shown time and again that he is committed to the welfare of citizens across the country, including here in Nyanza.”
The Senator cited ongoing projects that demonstrate the government’s commitment to development.
Among them is the repair and tarmacking of the Awasi–Onjiko–Kisumu road, a vital link that has enhanced mobility for residents and traders.
In addition, reforms in the sugar industry were highlighted as evidence of the administration’s attention to key economic sectors affecting livelihoods.
Beyond infrastructure and industry, Prof Ojienda emphasised the government’s achievements in affordable housing, healthcare, and agricultural reforms, pointing to initiatives that have transformed lives across the region.
“These are not just statistics; these are real changes felt by our people in their everyday lives,” he said.
While drumming up support for his gubernatorial bid in Kisumu County, Prof Ojienda also emphasised the need for a people-centered leadership style, reflecting the same philosophy he attributes to President Ruto.
During the event, he shared Christmas gifts with residents, reinforcing his commitment to community engagement and service.
Prof Ojienda pledged that, if elected Governor, he would prioritise healthcare services, ensuring that hospitals across Kisumu County are fully functional and accessible to all.

He cited the progress made in Muhoroni and Awasi, areas that have witnessed visible development under the current administration, as examples of what can be achieved through committed governance.
“The progress we are witnessing today is a result of listening to the people and acting on their needs,” Prof Ojienda said.
“As Governor, I will continue this approach, ensuring that every community in Kisumu benefits from development initiatives.”
The Senator’s address comes amid heightened political activity in Nyanza, as local and national leaders mobilise support ahead of upcoming elections.

By linking his gubernatorial agenda with President Ruto’s national development record, Prof Ojienda is positioning himself as a candidate committed to continuity, inclusivity, and practical development.
As residents celebrated the festive season, Prof Ojienda’s message was clear: development that touches the lives of ordinary citizens should remain the benchmark for leadership.
By highlighting projects like road upgrades, healthcare improvements, and sectoral reforms, he reinforced the narrative that responsive governance yields tangible results.
With the Kisumu County gubernatorial race shaping up to be fiercely contested, Prof Ojienda’s call for support for both President Ruto and his own leadership vision underscores the intertwined nature of national and county-level politics.
“Supporting leaders who deliver for the people is not just a choice—it is a responsibility,” he concluded.
