Kenya, 23 June 2026 - The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Mandera East has intensified efforts to improve learning conditions in schools through the distribution of desks and chairs aimed at enhancing comfort and creating a better learning environment for students.
Speaking during the launch of 1,050 desks and chairs for 11 secondary schools, Mandera East MP Hussein Weytan said the initiative is part of NG-CDF’s broader commitment to strengthening education infrastructure across the constituency.
Weytan noted that quality learning begins with a conducive environment, emphasizing that students spend nearly eight hours in school daily and deserve proper furniture that supports learning and comfort.
He highlighted the importance of using suitable materials for school furniture, especially in Mandera’s harsh climatic conditions where temperatures can rise above 40 degrees Celsius.
According to the MP, the choice of non-metallic desks and chairs was deliberate to ensure students remain comfortable and safe while learning.
He noted that metallic furniture has previously posed challenges due to extreme heat, making classrooms uncomfortable for learners.
The new desks, he said, are designed to address these challenges while improving classroom standards.
The MP further stated that the desk distribution program is part of a wider education support plan targeting 22 secondary schools across Mandera East.
The first phase has covered 11 schools distributed across the constituency’s three sub-counties, while the remaining schools are expected to benefit in the next phase.
Weytan assured schools yet to receive support that NG-CDF has not forgotten them and plans are underway to ensure equitable distribution of resources across all targeted institutions.

Beyond secondary schools, he acknowledged that many primary schools also face acute shortages of desks and learning materials.
He revealed that NG-CDF Mandera East is actively working on interventions to support primary schools with similar needs.
The initiative reflects NG-CDF Mandera East’s continued investment in education through infrastructure development, classroom improvement, and provision of essential learning resources.
Weytan reiterated that investing in school infrastructure is critical in improving academic performance, reducing overcrowding, and creating an environment where both teachers and students can thrive.
He added that education remains a top priority for Mandera East, with NG-CDF committed to supporting programs that improve access, quality, and overall learning outcomes across the constituency.
