Muturi Woos Gen Zs, Says Youth Hold Key to Kenya's Political Future

Kenya, 6 August 2026 - Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi has intensified efforts to court Kenya's youth, declaring that young people are not merely the country's future leaders but active partners in shaping its political and economic destiny.

Muturi, a key figure in the United Opposition alliance seeking to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, said the coalition was committed to expanding opportunities for youth participation in leadership, governance and innovation.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday after meeting a group of young social media influencers and digital content creators, the former Public Service Cabinet Secretary described the youth as a powerful force capable of driving national transformation.

"Today, I had the pleasure of engaging with a vibrant group of young people who are shaping conversations and influencing public discourse through social media. Beyond the exchange of ideas, we also shared a light moment, reminding ourselves that meaningful leadership is built not only through dialogue but also through genuine human connection," Muturi said.

He said the Democratic Party believes the country's young people must be at the centre of decision-making rather than waiting for future leadership opportunities.

"The Democratic Party firmly believes that young people are not merely the leaders of tomorrow; they are active partners in shaping our nation's future today. We remain committed to creating opportunities for meaningful youth participation in leadership, governance, innovation and nation-building because the future of Kenya depends on the strength, ideas and aspirations of its young people," he said.
