June 28, 2026 - Residents of Arabia in Mandera East participated in a community dialogue aimed at promoting civic awareness, inclusive governance, and peaceful coexistence as preparations for the 2027 General Elections gradually begin.
The meeting brought together youth, women, community leaders, and other key stakeholders to discuss the importance of civic participation, responsible citizenship, and active involvement in governance and decision-making processes.
The dialogue through MAZINGIRA Alliance, and its TuShirikishe Project, provided an interactive platform for residents of Arabia to engage in discussions on their rights and responsibilities as citizens, while also exploring ways to strengthen peace, unity, and social cohesion within the community.
Residents also emphasized the need for greater public participation in governance, noting that informed and active citizens play a crucial role in ensuring accountability, transparency, and effective leadership.
Special attention was given to the role of youth and women in shaping the future of the region, with calls for increased involvement in public forums and decision-making spaces.
Hibaq Ahmed from Mazingira Alliance highlighted that empowering communities with civic knowledge is essential in promoting democratic values and ensuring peaceful political engagement ahead of future elections.
She emphasized the need for unity and urged the community to safeguard peace and coexistence as the political season begins.
The discussions also focused on the importance of preventing divisions and promoting tolerance, particularly during political seasons when tensions can rise within communities.
Northern region Garissa Wajir and Mandera has historically witnessed increased tribal divisions during election periods, with political tensions often threatening peace, stability, and social cohesion.
