Three new parties registered as provisional list rises to 37

Kenya, August 12, 2026 - Three new political parties have been issued with provisional registration certificates, bringing the number of provisionally registered parties in Kenya to 37.

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) issued the certificates to the Clean Alliance Party of Kenya (CAP-K), Chama cha Undugu na Demokrasia (CUD) and New Face Party of Kenya (FACE).

Registrar of Political Parties J.C. Lorionokou presented the certificates during a ceremony at the ORPP headquarters.

Lorionokou congratulated the officials of the three parties for meeting the legal requirements for provisional registration and urged them to focus on popularising their policies, ideologies and programmes.

“You must now focus on popularizing your party by clearly presenting your policies and ideologies to the public, while remaining fully compliant with the law,” he said.

The Registrar reminded the parties that provisional registration comes with an obligation to comply with the Political Parties Act and other applicable laws as they work towards full registration.

Deputy Director in charge of Registration Locha Erukudi highlighted the requirements under Section 7 of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D, including the need for inclusive leadership structures and gender balance.

He also encouraged the parties to train their officials on the Integrated Political Parties Management System (IPPMS) to strengthen internal governance and improve their operational efficiency.

The certificate issuance session was coordinated by the ORPP Registration Department, with officials from various departments providing guidance to the new parties on compliance requirements.

Representatives of the three parties thanked the registrar’s office for the support and guidance they received during the registration process.

They pledged to meet all legal and institutional requirements as they pursue full registration.

The increase in provisionally registered parties comes as political formations continue to position themselves ahead of future electoral contests, with the ORPP emphasising compliance, inclusive leadership and sound internal governance.
