United Kingdom, May 14, 2026 - Manchester City F.C. kept the Premier League title race alive with a dominant 3–0 victory over Crystal Palace F.C. at the Etihad Stadium, producing a composed and clinical performance that keeps the pressure firmly on league leaders Arsenal F.C.
After Arsenal’s tense victory over West Ham earlier in the week, Pep Guardiola’s side entered the match knowing anything less than three points would effectively hand the title advantage completely to the Gunners. Instead, City responded with authority, cutting Arsenal’s lead to just two points with two matches remaining.
Guardiola made six changes to his starting lineup ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea, resting major players including Erling Haaland, Jérémy Doku, and Rayan Cherki from the opening XI. Despite the rotation, City controlled the match from start to finish and rarely allowed Palace opportunities to threaten seriously.
The opening stages were relatively cautious, with Crystal Palace initially defending in a compact shape and attempting to frustrate City’s rhythm. Oliver Glasner’s side briefly thought they had taken a surprise lead early in the match, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
Once City settled, however, the match quickly tilted heavily in their favor.
The breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute through one of the best moments of the night. Phil Foden, operating in a deeper creative role, produced a brilliant backheel assist inside the penalty area to release Antoine Semenyo, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner past Dean Henderson to make it 1–0.
The goal transformed the atmosphere inside the Etihad.
City began moving the ball with far greater confidence and intensity, while Palace struggled to cope with the hosts’ movement between midfield and attack. Foden, in particular, looked back to his best form, creating chances repeatedly and dictating the tempo of the contest. According to reports from AS and The Guardian, he created five chances in the first half alone and registered two assists before halftime for the first time in his Premier League career.
City doubled their advantage eight minutes later.
A dangerous attacking move inside the Palace box ended with the ball falling kindly to Omar Marmoush after another contribution from Foden, and the Egyptian forward reacted quickly to fire a sharp finish into the far corner for 2–0 in the 40th minute.
At halftime, Guardiola’s side were fully in control.
Crystal Palace offered very little attacking threat after the break as City continued dominating possession and controlling the pace of the match. Josko Gvardiol, making his first start since suffering a tibial fracture in January, nearly added a third goal with a powerful header before Dean Henderson produced an excellent save to keep Palace alive temporarily.

The third goal finally arrived in the 84th minute.
Substitute Rayan Cherki delivered a perfectly weighted through ball that split the Palace defense before Savinho finished confidently into the far corner to complete the 3–0 victory. The goal capped another polished City attacking performance and significantly improved their goal difference in the title race.
The statistics underlined City’s dominance throughout the evening.
Guardiola’s team controlled 72 percent possession and recorded 15 shots compared to Palace’s six, extending their unbeaten Premier League run to mid-January. Reuters described the performance as “convincing,” while Sky Sports praised City’s depth and control despite the heavy squad rotation.
Phil Foden deservedly emerged as the standout player of the match.
The England midfielder delivered two assists, controlled City’s creativity, and constantly found space between Palace’s defensive lines. Guardiola later praised Foden’s sharpness and influence, especially at a moment in the season when City need their biggest players to perform under pressure.
For Crystal Palace, the defeat was disappointing but not disastrous.
Glasner’s side remain comfortably safe in the league and still have the UEFA Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano to look forward to later this month. The Palace manager admitted afterward that City’s quality and intensity proved too much for his side on the night.
The result leaves Manchester City on 77 points, just two behind Arsenal with two matches remaining for both sides. Guardiola’s team now travel to Bournemouth before ending the season at home against Aston Villa, while Arsenal still face Burnley and Crystal Palace.
City still need Arsenal to drop points somewhere in the closing weeks. But after another dominant performance at the Etihad, the message from Guardiola’s side was clear.
The champions are still fighting.
The pressure remains on Arsenal.
And the Premier League title race is far from over.
