Somalia, 12 August 2026 – Sudan’s intelligence chief, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Ibrahim Ali Mufaddal, arrived in Mogadishu on Tuesday for an unannounced visit and held talks with senior Somali officials, Dawan Africa has learned.
Mufaddal, Director-General of Sudan’s General Intelligence Service (GIS), met President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Director-General of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Mahad Mohamed Salad, according to information obtained by Dawan Africa.
The purpose and details of the talks have not been publicly disclosed. However, Mufaddal is believed to be carrying a message from Sudan’s military leader and Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to President Mohamud.
The visit marks Mufaddal’s second known trip to Mogadishu in less than a year. He made a brief official visit to the Somali capital on August 27, 2025, when he was received by Salad before holding talks with President Mohamud at Villa Somalia.

During that visit, Mufaddal formally delivered a message from al-Burhan reaffirming Sudan’s interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Somalia.
The August 2025 meeting focused on relations between Somalia and Sudan and cooperation on issues of mutual interest. Somali authorities said at the time that Mogadishu was committed to strengthening ties with Khartoum, including cooperation on shared security priorities.
Mufaddal’s latest trip comes as Sudan remains embroiled in the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, a war that has also drawn competing regional interests into the crisis.
Neither the Somali presidency nor Sudanese authorities had publicly announced details of Mufaddal’s latest visit or any agreements resulting from his meetings at the time of publication.
