Kenya, June 29, 2026 - The Kenya Urban Road Authority (KURA) has announced the commissioning of the new flyover at the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road junction near Junction Mall.
In a statement on Monday, the authority said that once opened, the flyover will significantly ease congestion, improve connectivity, cut travel time, and boost mobility across Nairobi.
The construction of the project commenced on September 16, 2024, and has cost around Ksh3.58 billion, funded by the Spanish Corporate International Fund.
The four-lane flyover near Junction Mall will include improved junctions, walkways, and cycling lanes that are set to enhance the safety of all road users.
Furthermore, upgraded drainage systems will help mitigate frequent flooding risks during the rainy season. The landscaping around the project will also add beauty to the city and improve the overall urban environment.
“Every detail matters. As the Ngong Road Flyover receives its final touches ahead of its official commissioning, it showcases precision engineering, innovation & aesthetic appeal, creating infrastructure that improves mobility and enhances the city's skyline,” the authority said.
The announcement comes as the government continues efforts to rehabilitate and expand road networks in Nairobi.
Two weeks ago, the authority announced the temporary closure of several key roads in Nairobi for up to eight months to allow for construction works.
The authority said a section of Ngong Road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road will be partially closed from Thursday, June 11, until Thursday, June 18, 2026, to allow for the installation of a twin cross culvert along the route.
Additionally, a section of Kenyatta Avenue at Valley Road/Jakaya Kikwete Road will be closed from Friday, June 12, 2026, until February 12, 2027, to pave the way for bridge construction works.
A section of Haile Selassie Avenue will also be partially closed from Friday, June 12, until Monday, October 12, 2026. KURA said the closure is intended to facilitate bridge construction works along the route.
