June 18, 2026 -Former Garissa County Governor Ali Korane has called for concerted efforts to combat the recent wave of insecurity gripping the town.
Speaking after meeting religious leaders in Garissa, Korane said the clerics should help bring other stakeholders on board to tackle the menace.
The former county chief noted that while security remains the mandate of police agencies, residents have a huge part to play in ensuring the town is safe.
"It's a big problem today, reports of young men with knives. As much as security is the mandate of the police, as leaders and stakeholders we must come together and find a solution," he said.
There have been increasing cases of youths between the ages of 12 and 20 terrorising residents. While a few have been killed by these marauding gangs, others have been left with life-threatening injuries.
The former governor also noted that it is prudent to get to the root cause of the insecurity, adding that identifying the problem will help in finding solutions.
