LAS ANOD, 2 August 2026 — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre arrived in Las Anod on Sunday to launch federal services and development projects in North East State, the Office of the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister and an accompanying delegation of cabinet ministers were welcomed at the airport by North East State leadership, traditional elders and community representatives.
Several federal ministries are expected to open offices and introduce services to allow residents direct access to government institutions. The move is part of a broader plan to extend essential services to the newly established administration.

The statement did not specify which ministries or services would be introduced, saying only that the government would implement public service and development programs in the region.
Addressing a public gathering, Barre said he would join residents in marking the first anniversary of North East State's establishment.
The visit comes as North East State holds events to commemorate its first year. Barre is also expected to meet with the administration's leadership during the celebrations.
