Kenya, 13 June 2026 - The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) has energized the 400kV Isinya–Konza Transmission Line and the 400/132/66kV Konza Substation, a major infrastructure milestone expected to enhance electricity reliability for Konza Technopolis and strengthen Kenya’s national power grid.
In a statement issued on Saturday, KETRACO said the project will improve grid stability, increase power transfer capacity and support economic growth in Konza and the wider lower eastern region.
The project comprises a 98-kilometre double-circuit 400kV transmission line connecting Isinya and Konza, alongside a modern Konza Substation fitted with two 400/132kV, 350MVA transformers and two 132/66kV, 100MVA transformers.
According to KETRACO, the new infrastructure will provide alternative power supply routes, improving network flexibility and reducing the risk of disruptions while meeting growing electricity demand.
KETRACO Acting Managing Director Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias described the energization as a significant achievement in the country's efforts to build a resilient and efficient electricity transmission network.
“The successful energization of the Isinya-Konza Transmission Line and Konza Substation strengthens the reliability of the national grid and guarantees quality power supply to Konza Technopolis and surrounding areas,” said Eng. Kibias.
He noted that reliable electricity remains critical to attracting investment and accelerating industrial development.
“This project is critical in supporting industrialization, attracting investments, and advancing Kenya’s Vision 2030 development agenda,” he added.
The transmission line is expected to facilitate the evacuation and distribution of electricity across the lower eastern region while providing the capacity required for new industrial, commercial and residential developments.
KETRACO said the project aligns with its mandate of developing and maintaining a robust national transmission network that supports economic growth, regional integration and universal access to reliable electricity.
Konza Technopolis is one of Kenya’s flagship Vision 2030 projects and is designed to position the country as a leading regional hub for information and communication technology, innovation, research and advanced manufacturing. The availability of reliable, high-capacity power infrastructure is considered a key requirement for attracting investors and supporting the smart city's long-term growth.
