Kenya, May 11, 2026 - Kenya Railways has defended the ongoing eviction at Amboseli Gardens in Lavington, stressing that the disputed land was illegally occupied by individuals who built structures there.
In a statement, the corporation said that the land, LR No. 330/227, had been occupied by individuals who have been attempting to grab it using falsified title deeds.
“The land in question is legally owned by Kenya Railways. The occupants illegally constructed structures on the property and are relying on a purported title deed that is not recognized by the Corporation,” the statement read.
The clarification comes after reports circulated that the corporation is illegally evicting an 80- year old woman to reclaim the land where she was living in Lavington.
The legal team representing the woman said that she had a valid lease for the property, which they say she has lived on for 34 years and has consistently paid the rates.
The team also claims that Kenya Railways said that orders to evict her from the property 'came from the above.' Allegedly, the corporations took their mobile phones and threatened to take their household items as well if they did not intend to leave.

The agency has, however, dismissed the claims that the woman at the centre of the dispute was living at the property, clarifying that the house had instead been rented out to a school.
Despite repeated public notices directing them to vacate the land, occupants of the areas had declined to comply. The corporation noted that it had cautioned them against the illegal occupation and encroachment on the railway reserve land.
“Kenya Railways believes she is being used to misrepresent the facts surrounding the matter and frustrate the Corporation’s efforts to reclaim its property,” the statement read.
The corporation has assured that it will not backstep in reclaiming illegally occupied railway land and safeguarding public assets, which it maintains are being conducted in accordance with due legal processes.
