Kenya, May 25, 2026 - Jubilee Party Secretary-General Moitalel Ole Kenta on Monday sensationally claimed that the 2022 General Election was rigged, warning that attempts to manipulate future polls would be fiercely resisted ahead of the 2027 race.
Speaking during a Jubilee delegates’ conference at the Kiambu Golf Club attended by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and dozens of aspirants, Ole Kenta alleged that some leaders were already plotting electoral malpractice.
“Our people learnt from the 2022 General Election and have decided that this country must return to normalcy,” said Ole Kenta.
“Our former President handed over power peacefully, but we all know the elections were rigged and I was personally a victim of that rigging,” he claimed.
Without naming individuals, the Jubilee official accused unnamed politicians of openly discussing plans to interfere with future elections.
“I have seen some leaders saying they will fill ballot boxes with fake papers to win elections. Please forget that because it will never happen again,” he said.
The remarks set the tone for a politically charged conference in which Jubilee leaders also reaffirmed Uhuru’s grip on Mt Kenya politics and formally rallied behind former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as the party’s preferred presidential candidate for 2027.
Former Murang’a Senator and Jubilee Director of Elections Kembi Gitura declared that Uhuru still remains the undisputed political kingpin of the Mt Kenya region.
Addressing delegates in Kikuyu, Gitura said the symbolic “muthigi” — a traditional Kikuyu staff signifying authority to lead the community — remains in Uhuru’s hands.
“Uhuru is still the kingpin for the Mt Kenya region. I am saying this without fear and contradiction. As a people from Mt Kenya, the person who still holds the muthigi is former President Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Gitura.

“There is no time we have had two people possessing the muthigi. When the time comes for him to hand over the muthigi, he will convene us for a historic hand-over ceremony,” he added.
Gitura recalled that Uhuru received the symbolic leadership staff from elders during a ceremony at Ihura Stadium in Murang’a, insisting the community still recognizes the former Head of State as its political leader.
He further disclosed that Uhuru had already endorsed Matiang’i during a visit to Murang’a County on November 11, 2025.
“When Uhuru, our party leader, came to Murang’a County, he endorsed Fred Matiang’i as the party’s preferred presidential aspirant. That is our stand and we are fully behind him,” said Gitura.
According to the former senator, Uhuru later repeated the same message during a political event in Narok organized by Ole Kenta.
“We want a leader that will lead us to prosperity and transform this nation. We are very proud of our presidential aspirant,” he said.
The Jubilee gathering highlighted growing political realignments within the opposition and signaled the former ruling party’s renewed push to regain influence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
