Kenya, 11 June 2026 - The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) on Thursday clarified that the emergency situation reported at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was a simulated scenario as part of a planned Full-Scale Emergency Exercise, and not a real accident.
“The drill has been successfully concluded. Normal airport operations continue,” KAA stated in an update.
“We thank all stakeholders for their cooperation.”
Earlier, the Kenya Red Cross had sparked panic after posting on X that an aircraft incident involving a crash landing had occurred at JKIA.
The organisation said its first responders were en route to support rescue operations alongside Port Health Services and EMS Kenya ambulance services.

KAA had earlier posted at around 12:08 pm that it was responding to an emergency situation at the airport, with response teams activated in line with established procedures.
It promised to provide further updates as more information became available.
The confirmation that the incident was only a planned drill brought major relief to passengers, airport staff, and the business community, allowing normal operations to resume uninterrupted.
