Garissa Hospital Intensifies Cholera Sensitisation After Suspected Outbreak

2 April 2026 - Following a suspected cholera outbreak, Garissa Level 5 Teaching and Referral Hospital has intensified sensitisation efforts to the public to contain the disease.

In a statement, the referral hospital said the facility continues to play a central role in treatment and emergency response, as well as strengthening public health systems, disease surveillance, and community education.

“Our public health teams have rolled out targeted community awareness campaigns focusing on proper hygiene, safe water use, sanitation practices, and early recognition of symptoms,” read the statement.

The hospital said efforts are being conducted in collaboration with county health authorities and local community leaders to ensure accurate information reaches households promptly.

“We urge residents to maintain high standards of personal and environmental hygiene, including regular hand washing with soap, drinking treated or boiled water, and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms such as diarrhoea or vomiting occur,” added the statement.
