Somalia, Aug. 4 2026 – China has signed a humanitarian assistance agreement worth 15 million yuan (about $2.1 million) with Somalia to support vulnerable communities affected by humanitarian crises, Somalia's National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) said on Tuesday.
According to a SoDMA statement, the agreement was signed by the agency's commissioner, Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle, and China's ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu.
The Chinese-funded project will provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities in some of Somalia's most affected areas, strengthening ongoing relief efforts and support for people impacted by humanitarian emergencies, the agency said.

Ambassador Wang said China would continue supporting Somalia, particularly through humanitarian assistance and broader cooperation between the two countries, according to the statement.
Mahmoud thanked the Chinese government for its continued support for Somalia, particularly efforts aimed at assisting vulnerable communities and strengthening the country's disaster response capacity.
The agreement comes as Somalia continues to face recurring humanitarian challenges driven by drought, floods, conflict and displacement, leaving millions of people in need of assistance. SoDMA said the new project would help reinforce ongoing humanitarian response efforts across the country.
