Kenya, 10 April 2026 - Travellers flying in and out of Nairobi faced delays on Friday after poor visibility disrupted operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), forcing Kenya Airways to reroute several flights.
In a customer update, the national carrier said both departures and arrivals had been affected, with some flights diverted to Moi International Airport in Mombasa as conditions worsened.
“We wish to inform our customers to expect some flight delays for departures and arrivals due to low visibility affecting operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,” Kenya Airways said.
The airline emphasised that the decision to divert flights was driven by safety considerations.
“Flight diversion is a necessary safety precaution to ensure the safety of all onboard and remains our highest priority,” the statement added.
Low visibility, often caused by fog or dense atmospheric conditions, can significantly limit pilots’ ability to land or take off safely, particularly at busy hubs like JKIA.

Kenya Airways said its teams are monitoring the situation closely and will resume normal operations once weather conditions improve.
“Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and will adjust our flight network and operations as soon as the weather conditions improve,” the airline noted.
Passengers have been advised to expect disruptions to travel schedules, especially for connecting flights through Nairobi.
