Mogadishu, 25 August 2026 - The European Union and Somalia discussed security, maritime threats and counterterrorism during talks in Mogadishu, the Office of National Security said on Tuesday.
EU Chargé d’Affaires Karin Gatt-Rutter met National Security Adviser Hagi Awes Ahmed on Aug. 23 to review security cooperation and EU-Somalia relations.

Maritime security has gained urgency after renewed piracy in the Gulf of Aden. The International Maritime Organization said Aug. 24 that six vessels were being held by pirates, with more than 90 seafarers affected.
