Stockholm, 21 September 2026 — Five Swedish politicians of Somali origin have secured seats in the Riksdag following the country's 2026 general election, according to the official list of elected members published by the Swedish Parliament.
The five lawmakers represent the Green Party and the Left Party across four constituencies: Gothenburg Municipality, Stockholm Municipality, Södermanland County and Dalarna County.
Leila Ali Elmi, representing the Green Party in Gothenburg, is the only incumbent among the five. She first entered parliament in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022 and 2026, having become Sweden's first parliamentarian of Somali origin.
Ilyas Hassan won a seat for the Left Party in Stockholm Municipality and will enter the Riksdag for the 2026-2030 parliamentary term.

Dalarna elected two lawmakers of Somali origin. Mursal Isa secured a seat for the Green Party, while Mohamed Abdukardir Ali, listed by parliament as Mohamed Ali, entered the Riksdag for the Left Party.
Ali, a 30-year-old from Borlänge, received 648 personal votes, allowing him to move from ninth place on the party's regional list to first and secure the parliamentary seat.
Their election comes after Sweden's centre-left opposition won 176 of the Riksdag's 349 seats, compared with 173 for the outgoing right-wing bloc.
