Somalia’s federal government has launched the rehabilitation of General Da’ud School in Mogadishu’s Yaaqshiid district, as part of efforts to expand access to quality education in the capital.
The Ministry of Education said the renovated school will accommodate up to 2,400 students and include 30 classrooms aimed at improving learning conditions for local communities.
Education Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir said the project forms part of broader government efforts to restore and strengthen the country’s education system.
“This school will provide local students with access to quality education free of charge,” the minister said during the launch ceremony.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Hassan Mohamed Ali said the rehabilitation project is expected to significantly increase educational capacity in the district.
The event was attended by government officials, district authorities and community representatives, who welcomed the reopening and restoration of the school.
Yaaqshiid district commissioner Sulayman Fargax said the rehabilitation of the school would provide important educational opportunities for children in the area.
Officials said the site had previously been occupied for more than 30 years, before being reclaimed by the education ministry as part of efforts to restore public educational infrastructure across the country.
General Da’ud School is one of the most prominent secondary schools in the Somali capital and was named after General Da’ud Abdulle Hirsi, one of the founding figures of the Somali National Army and its first commander after independence.
