Ethiopia, 8 December 2025 — Police in Jigjiga have arrested a man accused of exploiting Somali women online, the Somali Regional State Police Commission said in a statement issued on Monday. Authorities did not specify when the arrest took place.
The suspect, identified as Ayuub, originally from Mogadishu and previously residing in Italy and Austria, was detained after multiple women reported that he coerced them into sending explicit videos. According to investigators, material found on his phone involved women from Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Garowe, Wajaale, Addis Ababa and Jigjiga.
“Our officers responded to complaints from women and successfully apprehended the suspect. We urge the public to remain vigilant against individuals who use digital platforms to harm women,” the Police Commission said.
