Mogadishu, 19 August 2026 — Egypt and Somalia have stressed the need for continued support and sustainable funding for the African Union in Somalia, their foreign ministeries said on Tuesday.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Somali Foreign Minister Abdelsalam Abdi Ali discussed, in a phone call, bilateral relations and developments in the Horn of Africa, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Somalia and supporting efforts to build state institutions, particularly in combating terrorism and extremism.

He stressed the importance of ensuring sustainable funding for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, AUSSOM, noting Egypt’s participation in the mission. He also underscored the need to maintain AUSSOM and the United Nations Support Office in Somalia, and to provide the funding required for their continued operation.
The ministers also discussed Egypt’s support for Somalia’s security and stability. Abdelatty reiterated Cairo’s support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Somali foreign minister praised Egypt’s continued support and said Mogadishu was keen to maintain close coordination with Cairo and strengthen bilateral relations.
