Kenya, April 28, 2026 - A routine day at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport turned into a major anti-drug operation after security agencies intercepted two separate consignments of methamphetamine destined for overseas markets.
In a statement, the National Police Service said, “a multi-agency team led by Anti-Narcotics officers has dealt a major blow to drug trafficking after intercepting two consignments of methamphetamine at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.”
The first consignment, weighing 1,730 grams and valued at Sh13.8 million, had been disguised as car pistons. It had originated from Tanzania and was headed for the Philippines, an indication of the lengths traffickers are going to conceal illegal drugs.
Police noted that the drugs were “cleverly concealed in items declared as car pistons at the airport.”
In a related operation, officers intercepted a second package weighing 1,020 grams and valued at Sh8 million. The shipment, traced to Juja, was also en route to the same destination.

Authorities believe the seizures point to a wider trafficking network operating across borders. “Investigations are underway to track down and apprehend those behind the syndicate,” the police said.
The back-to-back interceptions highlight growing efforts by security agencies to tighten surveillance at key entry and exit points, particularly as traffickers adopt more sophisticated methods.
