Djibouti, 9 November 2025 — A contingent from the Djiboutian Coast Guard, accompanied by units from the National Navy, departed today for Saudi Arabia to participate in the multinational maritime exercise “Red Wave,” according to a statement from the Guard’s Communication Unit.
The exercise, involving several coastal states from the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, is aimed at promoting cooperation in maritime security, crisis management, and coordinated response to sea-based threats.
The specialized personnel have also carried maritime assets and logistical equipment to enable them actively engage in various operational scenarios planned during the exercise.
According to the Coast Guard, this joint deployment reflects Djibouti’s continued efforts to improve the operational readiness of its maritime forces and exchange best practices with regional partners.
Exercise “Red Wave” also forms part of the Djibouti Code of Conduct, a regional framework established in 2009 to foster collaboration among Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Western Indian Ocean Nations in combating piracy, smuggling, and other illicit maritime activities.
