Ethiopia, 10 June 2026 – Ethiopia’s Somali Region inaugurated a $1.35 million technical and vocational college in Awbare, regional media reported on Tuesday.
Somali Region President Mustafe Mohamed Omar and the region’s Employment Minister, Hussein Gaydh, presided over the opening ceremony of the Maax-Dugsiiye Technical and Vocational College.
The college consists of 21 buildings spread across 25 hectares and is expected to provide education and vocational training to up to 1,500 students each year.
Regional authorities said the institution was designed to offer comprehensive training across a range of technical and vocational disciplines aimed at improving workforce skills and supporting employment opportunities.

The campus includes student accommodation, dining facilities, classrooms, practical training workshops, administrative offices and other support services.
Officials said the facility was built to meet standards required for modern vocational education and also includes recreational areas and sports facilities.
The inauguration forms part of broader efforts by the Somali Region administration to expand access to technical education and equip young people with skills needed in the labour market.
