Somalia, 10 June 2026 – Somali electricity company BECo denied reports Wednesday of a planned Mogadishu power outage, saying no maintenance or scheduled outage was set for Wednesday night.
In a notice to customers on Social Media, the company said its electricity service would continue as normal.
“We inform our valued customers that there is no planned maintenance or shutdown tonight on BECo’s electricity service,” the company said.

BECo also apologised to customers over what it described as false reports circulating on social media.
The company’s statement came after reports spread on social media in recent hours claiming that electricity in Mogadishu would be switched off overnight, although the origin and official source of the claims were not immediately known.
Beco is one of the main private electricity providers serving Mogadishu, where residents and businesses rely heavily on power supplied by private companies.
