Djibouti, 28 October 2025 — The Centre for Studies and Research of Djibouti (CERD) has inaugurated a new agricultural research laboratory and launched the 2025 edition of the Research Training School (EFR), reinforcing Djibouti’s role as a growing center for scientific collaboration in East Africa.
The state-of-the-art agricultural laboratory is equipped with modern technology for soil and crop analysis to help improve food security and support sustainable farming practices.
“This laboratory was established with two main objectives: to develop high-quality crops adapted to Djibouti’s climate and to study regions rich in natural resources,” said Abdirahman Dahir, Director of CERD’s Life Sciences Institute.
Some of the beneficiaries will be the young researchers across Africa selected for the EFR 2025 program, held from 26 to 31 October.
The 15 young researchers will undergo a hands-on training in land restoration, soil and water analysis, and ecosystem management.
The course is jointly organized by CERD, France’s Institute for Research and Development (IRD), and partner universities in Djibouti, Algeria, and France.
Both initiatives reflect Djibouti’s broader commitment to research-driven agricultural development and regional scientific cooperation.
