Djibouti, 5 April 2026 - Djibouti has launched its first FIFA-certified beach soccer referee training programme, bringing together dozens of young officials as the country seeks to develop expertise in the growing sport.
The five-day course, held at the Douda Academy, involves 25 referees drawn from the capital and five regions, and combines theoretical and practical instruction led by a FIFA-appointed expert, the Djiboutian Football Federation said on Sunday.
The training focuses on beach soccer-specific rules, match management, physical preparation and decision-making, with support from local instructors.
Officials said the programme marks the first time such FIFA-level beach soccer referee training has been conducted in Djibouti, reflecting efforts to professionalise officiating standards as the sport gains popularity.

The course was opened by representatives of Djibouti’s refereeing commission and football authorities, alongside officials from the beach soccer league, who urged participants to approach the training seriously while embracing the learning process.
“Your role is crucial for the smooth running of competitions and the protection of players,” said a beach soccer league official at the opening ceremony, according to the federation.
The refereeing commission said the initiative is part of broader cooperation with FIFA to improve the quality of matches, noting that demand for qualified officials is increasing alongside the sport’s growth.
The FIFA-mandated instructor leading the training is being assisted by local refereeing experts, the federation said.
