Mogadishu, 20 August 2026 – Somalia has expressed condolences to Indonesia after a powerful earthquake struck Flores Island, killing and injuring people and displacing thousands of families.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Thursday it was deeply saddened by the loss caused by the disaster, and conveyed condolences on behalf of the Somali government and people to those affected by the earthquake
Somalia expressed its support for Indonesia during this difficult time and commended the efforts of Indonesian authorities in providing emergency assistance and responding to the needs of affected communities.

The ministry also highlighted the friendly relations between Somalia and Indonesia, noting that both countries are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Somali government wished a swift recovery to those injured and expressed sympathy to families affected by the disaster as they cope with the aftermath.
