Kenya, 20 August 2026 - Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr Mathews Owili has inspected the ongoing renovation of Moi Stadium, describing the progress as a positive step towards upgrading the county’s sporting infrastructure.
Owili said the facility would provide a better environment for athletes and residents once the works are completed.
He commended the progress made so far, saying modern sporting facilities were essential in nurturing talent and giving young people opportunities to pursue careers in sports.
The Deputy Governor said the county government would continue monitoring the works to ensure that the renovation meets the required standards and delivers value for public resources.
He said the upgraded stadium would also strengthen Kisumu’s capacity to host major sporting events, potentially generating business for hotels, restaurants, transport operators and other enterprises.
Owili urged contractors and relevant officials to maintain the pace and quality of work, noting that residents were looking forward to a modern facility that could serve the county for years to come.
