Somalia, 30 April 2026 Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama said the government will step up efforts to counter extremism with youth awareness campaigns, the Prime Minister's Office said Thursday.
Jama made the remarks after chairing a meeting on countering extremism in Mogadishu attended by government officials and international partners.
The forum, organised by the TUBSAN centre, discussed ways to enhance community awareness and prevent the recruitment and radicalisation of youth by militant groups.
Jama said the government had made tangible progress in security and counterterrorism operations but stressed the need to intensify preventive measures against extremist ideologies.

“The government is committed to ensuring security and building a generation free from extremist ideologies,” he said.
Officials highlighted the role of public awareness in reducing vulnerability to radicalisation, particularly among the youth.
Somalia has in recent years intensified efforts to counter extremism, combining military operations with community-based initiatives.
