Kenya, July 5, 2026 - The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has apprehended a suspect accused of defrauding job seekers of more than Sh8.6 million.
In a statement on Sunday, the detectives said that the suspect allegedly obtained KSh8,621,141 from unwitting victims after he promised to secure them employment in various government institutions.
He claimed that he could facilitate their recruitment into the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the National Police Service (NPS) and the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The arrest follows investigations launched by detectives from DCI Samburu North after reports were filed at Baragoi Police Station. The probe identified Oduor as a key suspect in the fraudulent scheme,” DCI stated.
“After allegedly going into hiding and ignoring police summons, the suspect’s luck finally ran out when detectives tracked him down to his hideout in Nairobi, arrested him and escorted him to Samburu to face the law,” it added.
Following the operations, the officers managed to recover two motor vehicles believed to be proceeds of crime, including a Toyota Axio registration KCW 432B and Toyota Mark X registration KCY 640U, which have been taken as exhibits as the probe continues.
The suspect was arraigned before the Maralal Law Courts on 3 July 2026, where detectives secured 10 days’ custodial orders to conclude investigations. He is expected to be back in court on July 1.

The announcement comes two days after the detectives arrested two suspects with KSh6 million in counterfeit notes along the Thika-Garissa Highway, which were being transported to Wamunyu, Kitui County.
In a statement on Friday, the detectives said that the duo was intercepted while travelling in a black Toyota Vitz by a multi-agency security team manning a roadblock at Kanyonyoo.
After a close inspection of the vehicle, security officers found a white carrier bag containing four tightly wrapped bundles, where the counterfeit Ksh1,000 notes were neatly packed into four bundles.
