Somali politician Abdirahman Aynte said a new alliance between the Xaqsoor and Haybad Qaran parties will focus on shaping the framework of upcoming elections while allowing both parties to remain independent.
Speaking on Dawan Media’s Miizaan Podcast aired on Friday, Aynte said the agreement creates a coordinated structure without merging the two parties.
“This is a coordination of principles and political strength, not a loss of independence,” he said.
The alliance has established a 30-member joint leadership council with equal representation from both sides, with each party assigned defined roles, Aynte said.
Under the arrangement, Haybad Qaran will field the presidential candidate, while Xaqsoor will lead the alliance’s chairmanship.
He said the agreement is designed for the short to medium term, with both parties continuing to operate separately while coordinating on preparations for the next elections.
“We agreed that the parties remain as they are, while the alliance focuses on designing the upcoming electoral process,” Aynte said.
The alliance allows for joint decision-making and leaves open the possibility of a future merger, depending on political developments.

While neither party has dominated national politics, both have sought to expand their reach through coalition-building and participation in opposition-leaning platforms.
Political alliances have become a common feature in Somalia’s evolving party system, particularly as stakeholders debate a transition toward broader electoral models and competitive party politics.
Aynte said the move reflects a broader political calculation that cooperation and power-sharing may be more effective than fragmented competition as multiple candidates prepare to contest the presidential election.
