Somalia, 24 December 2025 The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) has welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s decision to extend its mandate for another year, which will now last until 31 December 2026.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, expressed his appreciation for the decision, stating that it reflects the continued confidence of the UN Security Council in AUSSOM’s critical role, particularly in supporting Somalia's security and the country’s stabilization process.
Ambassador Diene emphasized that the decision affirms AUSSOM’s essential role in supporting security and rebuilding Somalia's security institutions, highlighting that it showcases the international community’s recognition of the mission's key involvement in the security priorities of Somalia.

“AUSSOM will continue to work closely with the Federal Government of Somalia, Somali Security Forces, the United Nations, and international and regional partners to consolidate the gains made and ensure lasting peace,” said Ambassador Diene.
He further added that AUSSOM will consistently focus on strengthening Somalia’s security process and ensuring sustainable funding to effectively meet all its responsibilities.
On Tuesday, The UN Security Council reaffirmed AUSSOM’s mandate authorizing it to continue working closely with the federal government and international partners in stabilizing Somalia.
