UK, 19 August 2026 - Aston Villa are enjoying one of the busiest periods of their summer transfer window, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka undergoing his medical ahead of his move from West Ham United, while deals for Zion Suzuki and Matteo Ruggeri are also approaching completion.
Villa have agreed to sign Wan-Bissaka initially on loan, with an obligation to buy included in the agreement. The 28-year-old is undergoing his medical before the transfer is formally completed. Standard Sport reports that the deal is structured as a loan with a mandatory purchase clause.
The move comes after West Ham were initially reluctant to accept Villa's loan proposal, but negotiations subsequently progressed and the two clubs reached an agreement.
Wan-Bissaka returns to the Premier League
Wan-Bissaka is set to return to the Premier League after West Ham's relegation to the Championship.
The former Crystal Palace and Manchester United defender made 25 Premier League appearances for West Ham last season, although he lost his place toward the end of the campaign. He started only five of the club's final seven league matches from the bench.
At Villa, he will provide competition for Matty Cash at right-back and add considerable Premier League experience to Unai Emery's squad.
The transfer is particularly logical given Villa's need for depth as they prepare for another campaign involving domestic competition and European football.
Villa are also closing in on Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
The Parma goalkeeper became a major target after his proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed. Villa subsequently accelerated their pursuit, with reports indicating that they were prepared to match the financial conditions of the abandoned PSG agreement.
The Guardian previously reported that Suzuki was targeted as Villa prepared for the possibility of Emiliano Martínez leaving, while the Japanese goalkeeper had been close to joining PSG for a deal worth around €35 million.
Suzuki has since undergone his medical, and Villa are expected to formally announce the transfer.
His arrival would give Emery another high-level goalkeeping option and potentially provide long-term succession planning should Martínez depart.

Matteo Ruggeri is also expected to be announced after Villa reached an agreement with Atlético Madrid for the Italian left-back.
Ruggeri has been identified as a replacement for Lucas Digne, who recently moved to PSG. Reports indicate that Villa expect to complete the deal for approximately £17 million.
His arrival would give Emery another naturally left-sided defender while adding youth and versatility to the squad.
Reports earlier this week indicated that Ruggeri and Suzuki were both expected to be confirmed imminently.
The three deals demonstrate Villa's determination to strengthen their squad after a summer of major changes.
The club have already lost several important players, including Digne, while Kosta Nedeljkovic is also heading towards an exit on loan with an obligation to buy.
Wan-Bissaka therefore effectively helps address the right-back situation, Ruggeri fills the left-back vacancy and Suzuki strengthens the goalkeeper department.
For Emery, the priority is building a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts without sacrificing quality when rotation becomes necessary.
With Wan-Bissaka completing his medical and Suzuki and Ruggeri close to official confirmation, Aston Villa are rapidly transforming their squad.
Three positions, three significant additions and a clear message from Unai Emery: Villa intend to be ready for another demanding season.
The formal announcements are now the next step, but the groundwork for all three transfers is firmly in place.
