Algeria, 27 December 2025 Algeria has strongly condemned Israel’s move to recognize Somaliland, warning that the step constitutes a serious violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and poses a threat to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Algeria described the Israeli action as an “illegal and irresponsible” measure that undermines the unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and contravenes the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.
The statement emphasized that any recognition of separatist entities violates the foundational norms of the international system, particularly the respect for internationally recognized borders—a principle enshrined within the African continental order and reaffirmed by the African Union as essential to safeguarding peace, security, and stability across Africa.
