Somalia, 27 December 2025 Somalia’s Parliament is set to convene an emergency session tomorrow, during which President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will deliver a speech on Israel's controversial recognition of Somaliland region.
Sources close to the President confirmed to Dawan Africa that the address will focus on the implications of the move for Somalia and reaffirm the country’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Israel’s decision to recognize Somaliland has triggered reactions domestically and internationally, with Somalia firmly reiterating its long-standing position that Somaliland remains an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Somali government has strongly condemned Israel’s move, describing it as a violation of international law and a risk to regional stability.

Somalia’s Parliament had no session scheduled for tomorrow; however, an urgent request from the President prompted the convening of the extraordinary sitting.
The last time Parliament held a similar emergency session was nearly two years ago, when lawmakers approved the current defense and economic cooperation agreement with Türkiye.
After the parliamentary session and the President’s address, Somalia is expected to take further diplomatic and legal steps to counter Israel’s decision, while seeking support from international organizations and foreign governments to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
