ADDIS ABABA (Dawan Africa) — The African Union has expressed concern after political talks between Somalia’s Federal Government and the Somali Future Council ended without reaching an agreement, according to a statement issued by the African Union Commission.
The negotiations, held in Mogadishu between May 13 and May 15, focused on Somalia’s ongoing political disputes and disagreements over the electoral process.
The AU commended both the Federal Government of Somalia, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and opposition leaders for engaging in direct discussions aimed at resolving the political impasse.
“The Commission commends the willingness of both the Federal Government and the opposition leadership to engage in direct and inclusive dialogue in the higher interest of Somalia and the Somali people,” the statement said.
