MOGADISHU, (Dawan) – Opposition leader and MP Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame has stated that the Somali opposition seeks a political agreement addressing the country’s transitional phase and the electoral process.
Speaking on the Miizaan Podcast, Abdishakur stressed that dialogue should resume from the point where previous discussions stalled rather than starting over.
“We want discussions to continue from where they left off,” he said.
He clarified that the opposition is not opposed to elections but insists that key principles guiding the electoral process must first be agreed upon. These principles include federalism, power-sharing, the parliamentary system, and the standard election cycle every four years.

“The disagreement is not technical; it concerns the fundamental principles upon which this government was built,” Abdishakur stated.
He also accused the federal government of attempting to centralize the election process under a single federal electoral committee, which he believes could undermine Somalia’s federal system.
Abdishakur concluded that the opposition seeks inclusive dialogue that clearly defines the election schedule, the role of federal member states, and how the political transition will be managed.
