Kenya, 7 January 2026 - West Ham United’s struggles in the Premier League deepened on Tuesday night as they suffered a 2–1 defeat at home to fellow relegation battlers Nottingham Forest, extending their winless run to 10 league games and piling pressure on manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
The match at the London Stadium seemed to be going West Ham’s way early on, with Forest defender Murillo inadvertently scoring an own goal in the 13th minute, giving the home side the lead and igniting hope among supporters desperate for a positive result.
However, Forest responded in the second half. Nicolás Domínguez leveled the score in the 55th minute with a powerful header from a corner, swinging the momentum away from the hosts. From there, the game became a tense battle between two teams desperately fighting for Premier League survival.
The decisive moment came late in the match when VAR intervened following a tussle between Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White and West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. A penalty was awarded in the 89th minute, much to the frustration of the home side. Gibbs-White stepped up and calmly converted from the spot, securing a crucial victory for Forest.

The defeat leaves West Ham rooted in the relegation zone, seven points adrift of Forest’s safety position, with fans and pundits sounding the alarm over the club’s direction. Midfielder Tomáš Souček criticised the penalty decision as a “joke,” reflecting the growing sense of frustration around the team.
With just two league wins in 16 matches under Nuno and mounting speculation about his future, West Ham face continued scrutiny both on and off the pitch. Supporter confidence appears shaken, and the club’s hierarchy may soon need to consider big changes if results do not improve.
West Ham’s next challenge comes as they visit Tottenham Hotspur, where another difficult test awaits in what has become a pivotal season for the East London club’s Premier League survival hopes.
