Saudi Arabia, 7 January 2026 The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is set to hold an emergency ministerial-level meeting of foreign ministers this Saturday, focusing on the latest political developments in the Federal Republic of Somalia—particularly Israel’s announced recognition of Somaliland.
The meeting, which will take place at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, aims to reaffirm the organization’s full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in accordance with international charters and previous OIC resolutions.
According to a statement issued by the OIC General Secretariat on Wednesday, the meeting forms part of broader diplomatic efforts to reject any unilateral actions that undermine the sovereignty of member states or create political realities outside the framework of international law.
In the same context, OIC Secretary-General, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, strongly condemned the visit made yesterday by Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to Somaliland, describing it as a clear violation of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
More from Somalia
The Secretary-General emphasized that any official visit to the territory of Somalia conducted without the consent of the federal government is illegal and contravenes the principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly those related to respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
Mr. Taha called on the international community to take urgent measures to halt all actions that undermine the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, warning that such actions pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
The emergency meeting scheduled for Saturday is expected to conclude with a clear resolution outlining the collective response of Islamic countries to Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, while reaffirming that Somalia’s unity is a non-negotiable principle.
