May 19 ,2026 - Wajir County First Lady Rukia Abdinasir has received recognition for her leadership and contribution towards promoting education, dignity, and opportunities for adolescent girls across the county.
The recognition was awarded by the Adolescent Girls Initiative–Kenya (AGI-K) during the organisation’s programme close-out meeting and dissemination of findings held in Wajir.
The initiative has worked to improve the welfare, education, and empowerment of adolescent girls, particularly in vulnerable and underserved communities where challenges such as school dropout, early marriage, and limited access to opportunities continue to affect many girls.
The recognition closely aligns with Mama Rukia’s continued advocacy for girls’ education and empowerment within Wajir County.
Speaking during the event as chief guest, the First Lady said investing in girls’ education remains one of the most important investments any society can make, noting that educated girls are more likely to contribute positively to their families and communities.
She commended teachers, schools, parents, Community Health Assistants, Community Health Promoters, chiefs, religious leaders, and local communities for their collective role in ensuring girls remain in school despite social and economic challenges.
