Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – The United Kingdom and the United States have extended warm congratulations to Somalia on the occasion of its 65th Independence Anniversary, praising the country’s progress and reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
In a personal message addressed to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, King Charles III of the United Kingdom said both he and Queen Camilla were “delighted” to send their best wishes to the people and government of Somalia.
“I am so pleased that our countries share such strong ties, and I look forward to strengthening further our friendship,” King Charles wrote, adding that he hopes both nations can collaborate on key global challenges, including climate change and environmental issues.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio released an official press statement celebrating Somalia’s National Day, which marks the country’s 1960 independence from colonial rule.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people and Government of Somalia on your 65th National Day,” Rubio said.
He commended Somalia’s efforts in the fight against terrorism and emphasized the United States’ desire to deepen cooperation in areas such as economic growth and counter-extremism.
“We look forward to strengthening our shared bonds… and to working together on issues of mutual national interest,” he noted.
Both messages underscore growing international support for Somalia’s development agenda and its efforts to stabilize the country amid ongoing security and political challenges.
