Kenya, May 15, 2026 - Emurua Dikirr Constituency has elected a new Member of Parliament, months after the tragic death of area MP Johana Ng’eno in a helicopter crash that shocked the nation.
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Keter emerged victorious in Thursday’s by-election after securing 18,266 votes in a closely watched contest that attracted heavy political attention across the country.
His main challenger, Vincent Rotich of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), garnered 10,760 votes, in what quickly turned into a straight fight between the two leading parties.
The by-election, held across 94 polling stations under tight security, saw voters arrive as early as dawn, with many describing the exercise as both emotional and decisive for the constituency’s future.
For many residents, the election was not only about politics, but also about filling the gap left by the late Johana Ng’eno, whose sudden death in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County on February 28 left the constituency in mourning.
Keter, who campaigned heavily on development, unity and continuity, thanked voters shortly after the results were announced and praised residents for maintaining peace throughout the exercise.
“We have run a peaceful campaign focused on development and the people of Emurua Dikirr have spoken through the ballot,” he said.

The victory is being viewed as a major boost for UDA in Narok County, especially as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Throughout the campaign period, both UDA and DCP deployed senior leaders to the constituency, turning the rural Narok seat into a high-stakes political battleground watched closely beyond the county borders.
Despite the heated campaigns, the voting process remained largely peaceful, with security officers deployed across the constituency to maintain order.
Residents now expect the incoming MP to shift focus quickly from politics to service delivery, with roads, water access, education and youth employment emerging as key concerns during the campaigns.
Keter now takes over leadership of a constituency still recovering from the loss of a leader many locals remembered for his outspoken politics and close connection with residents.
