26 May 2026 - Two elders from Marsabit County accused in a terrorism-related case have been released on bond by the Kahawa Law Courts pending the hearing and determination of the matter.
Former chief Dabasso Fayo and elder Gurach Dambala Sora were each granted a KSh 5 million bond with a surety of a similar amount, according to court documents seen by Dawan Africa.
The two are facing allegations linked to the commission of a terrorist act and are expected to appear before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Kahawa on 8 June 2026 for further directions.
Moyale MP Prof Guyo Waqo Jaldesa confirmed the release of the two elders, saying he personally stood surety for Mr Sora, while Dr Waqo Gufu Boru secured the release of former chief Fayo.
“As the Member of Parliament for Moyale Constituency, I stood surety for Mzee Gurach Dambala Sora through a Ksh5 million bond guarantee, while Dr Waqo Gufu Boru secured the release of former Chief Dabasso Fayo,” the MP said in a statement.
Prof Jaldesa said the intervention was aimed at safeguarding the constitutional rights of the accused while allowing the judicial process to proceed independently.
“This intervention was undertaken in the spirit of safeguarding the constitutional rights of the two elders and ensuring that they receive fair treatment and due process under the law,” he said.
“We remain fully respectful of the independence of the Judiciary and have confidence that the matter will be handled fairly, transparently, and impartially by the courts.”
The MP further urged residents of Moyale and the wider Marsabit County to remain calm and peaceful as the case proceeds in court.
