Kenya, August 24 ,2026 - The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has revealed that it issued a stop order to Environmental and Combustion Consultants Ltd (ECCL) in Kajiado County over non-compliance with hazardous waste management and air quality regulations.
ECCL is an environmental management company that provides services related to hazardous waste management, environmental compliance and combustion processes. The company handles waste generated from industrial operations.
The stop orders were issued after the authority conducted an assessment and found that the company’s operations are unsatisfactory and non-compliant with existing environmental regulations.

The development came as the Senate Standing Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources inspected the ECCL facility, where the committee was joined by Tobiko and Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho.
“The Committee also inspected the Environmental and Combustion Consultants Ltd (ECCL), in Kajiado County, where they were joined by Kajiado East MP, Hon. Peris Tobiko and Deputy Governor Kajiado, Hon. Martin Moshisho,” the authority stated.
“This followed a parliamentary question that had been raised by the MP on the manner in which the hazardous waste was being managed by the Company,” it added.
The inspection was part of a wider assessment of environmental challenges in the region, with the Senate committee also visiting the Nairobi River ecosystem.
During the Nairobi River visit, the committee noted that riparian encroachment and sewage discharge are among the most pressing challenges affecting the river, which has historically borne the brunt of environmental pollution.
The Authority said it has made notable progress in stopping various illegal discharge points into the Nairobi River as part of efforts to curb pollution.
NEMA also assured that it was implementing the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Regulations, 2024, as part of efforts to improve solid waste management and reduce the amount of waste ultimately reaching dumpsites.
