5 January 2026 - Two people have lost their lives following a tragic road accident involving a Bahrain bus, which was traveling from Nairobi to Mandera, and a lorry along Baraki Road, between Garissa and Modogashe, near Baraki area.
The accident occurred on Sunday at approximately 9pm, causing panic and grief among commuters using the busy long-distance corridor linking Northern Kenya to the capital.
The route is commonly used by travelers heading to Wajir and Mandera counties.
According to reports on the ground the lorry was stationary on the road at the time of the accident and was not clearly visible to the bus driver, leading to a fatal head-on collision.

Early information further confirms that the lorry driver, who has been identified, and one of his conductors who was inside the vehicle during the collision, lost their lives at the moment of impact.
Local authorities and emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to assist survivors and assess the situation.
Several passengers who sustained critical injuries were rushed to health facilities in Modogashe and Garisa Town for urgent medical treatment.
The accident has once again raised serious concerns about road safety on long-distance highways, particularly due to heavy commercial traffic and long travel hours along the northern corridor.
