Somalia, 5 January 2026 A mother, her sister, and three children have died in a fierce fire that broke out in their home in the 26 June district of Hargeisa today morning.
The fire, which caught neighbours unawares, completely consumed the deceased’s traditional hut made of dried palm leaves.
The children who died were aged 12, 7, and 5, all of whom were girls.
The Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) immediately sealed the area to gather evidence on the cause of the fire.

The Director of the Fire and Rescue Service of Somaliland, Major General Ahmed Mahamed Hasan, expressed his condolences to Hamsa Ahmed Osman, a member of the Fire and Rescue Service from Borama, who lost his sister in the inferno.
Osman also expressed his sorrow for the tragic incident
Preliminary investigations indicate the fire may have been caused by a malfunctioning cooking stove.
